<b>Your host's backups belong to your host, not to you.</b>
They live in the same account, behind the same login, on the same infrastructure. The day your card gets declined, your account gets suspended, or a support agent fat-fingers a delete, those backups vanish with everything else.
Worse: most hosts' "daily backups" are best-effort with zero restore SLA. Read the fine print. "We are not responsible for data" is in there.
A backup you can't pull to a machine you control is a hostage, not a safety net.
If your only copy is in your hosting panel, you're uninsured. Fight me.
