Lead Validation: Phone-First vs Email-First Tools
What it is: Pre-submit validators that block junk leads before they hit your CRM. Two camps: phone-first (Twilio Lookup, Numverify) and email-first (ZeroBounce, NeverBounce, Kickbox).
Best for: Forex lead-gen affiliates paid on validated CPL, where the broker rejects unreachable leads.
Pros (phone-first):
— Catches the real failure point — brokers call, they don't email
— Line-type detection flags VoIP/landline numbers that won't convert to FTD
— Carrier lookup exposes recycled numbers
Cons (phone-first):
— ~$0.005-0.008 per lookup adds up fast at volume
— Can't detect a valid-but-fake number someone typed deliberately
Pros (email-first):
— Cheaper per check, catches typos and disposable domains (mailinator etc.)
— Syntax + MX + SMTP ping in one call
Cons (email-first):
— A valid email says nothing about reachability for a call-center offer
— Greylisting causes false 'unknown' results you have to treat as pass
For forex, phone reachability is the metric the broker pays on, so phone-first wins on signal — but run email syntax as a cheap pre-filter first, then only pay for phone lookup on what survives.
Who should skip this: Pure RevShare deals where you keep paying out junk leads anyway — validation only protects CPL.
Verdict: Validate the channel that pays.
