Q: My team stopped reacting to monitoring alerts. How do I fix alert fatigue?
A: People ignore alerts when most of them aren't actionable. The fix is fewer, better pages, not louder ones.
Three concrete moves:
— Add a confirmation delay (require failure to persist 2-3 cycles) so micro-blips never page anyone.
— Separate severity. A down homepage pages on-call now; a slow internal dashboard goes to a Slack channel nobody gets woken for.
— Group related alerts. If one server drops 12 endpoints, send one incident, not twelve.
Then track a simple ratio: alerts that led to action vs. total alerts. If under ~50%, you're training the team to mute you. Tune thresholds until most pages mean something.
Follow-up people forget: review and delete checks for retired services. Dead monitors are a top fatigue source.
