Free SSL doesn't make you "secure"
Myth: "They include free SSL, so the host keeps my site secure."
That padlock is a free Let's Encrypt cert encrypting traffic in transit. It says nothing about outdated PHP, a shared IP poisoned by a spammer neighbor, file permissions, or whether they patch the kernel. Encryption is the one thing that's automatic and free; the security that's actually hard, they leave to you.
Why headline SSL? Because it's a checkbox that costs them zero and sounds like protection.
Reality: SSL secures the pipe, not the house the pipe runs into.
