How to read affiliate case studies without falling for survival bias
Affiliate networks publish case studies to attract talent, often highlighting extreme success while ignoring failures. To find value, look past the ROI and examine the traffic source. High margins are useless if the offer was saturated shortly after the campaign.
Focus on the technical setup. Even if the offer is dead, the tracking logic and landing page structure remain relevant. Analyze why a funnel worked and if success relied on a technical exploit or a sustainable strategy that can be adapted to other niches.
Be skeptical of screenshots. Scaling usually drops ROI, but cases show only the best days. Look for consistency in spend. If a report shows massive profit over just a few days, it was likely a short-term trend rather than a repeatable system.
Extract the logic behind the creative and targeting, then apply those principles to a fresh offer where competition is lower. Treat cases as a blueprint, not a manual.
