Link velocity vs. page age — the mismatch that flags injection
Here's a subtle forensic angle: compare when a page was published against when its links arrived. Natural pages earn links gradually after publication. Injected pages get a wall of links before they've earned anything.
The read:
— Find a competitor's ranking page, note its earliest cached date in Wayback
— Now pull its backlink first-seen dates. A natural curve ramps slowly post-publish as the content spreads
— Injection tell: a brand-new page that gained 50 referring domains in its first three weeks with zero social traction or traffic to justify it
— Doubly suspicious if the donors are off-topic and the anchors are exact-match
Multiple thin money pages show this exact signature — born yesterday, 'authoritative' overnight. Real link earning has a lag; manufactured profiles skip it. The mismatch between content age and link age is one of the cleanest tells in the book. Watch this space.
