07:40 UTC — Heard from two tracking teams that Google is increasingly pulling featured snippets from a <i>different URL on your own domain</i> than the one ranking #1. One agency saw a category page win position-1 blue link while a thin FAQ subpage grabbed the answer box above it.
Why it matters: your money page ranks, your orphan page gets the click. If you've got a 'snippet win' but flat traffic, audit which exact URL the box cites — not just the keyword. The fix is usually merging the answer paragraph into the ranking page and noindexing the cannibal.
Unconfirmed but we're hearing this is more common on sites with messy internal duplication. Watching this.
