How many articles does a topical cluster need before you can call it complete?

There is no universal number. A cluster is complete when it covers the audience’s meaningful questions and gives the hub page a clear purpose. Article count is the result of coverage, not the target.

Build the map in this order:
1. Define the core topic and primary intent.
2. List subtopics, use cases, comparisons, problems, and objections.
3. Add a page only when it answers a distinct question.
4. Link each page to the hub and to closely related articles.

Use a stopping test: look for missing questions, duplicate intent, and unsupported claims. If two pages serve the same need, combine them. If an important question has no useful destination, add a page. Check whether the internal links help readers move from learning to choosing or acting.

Do not use a fixed rule such as 10, 20, or 50 articles. A narrow topic may need five strong pages; a broad one may need dozens. Publish the smallest complete set, then expand only when a genuine coverage gap appears.
