Anycast does not fix a slow origin
A Jakarta SaaS app moved to a slick anycast CDN expecting their dashboard to feel instant worldwide. Singapore users still waited 1.4 seconds per page.
The myth: anycast routing makes everything fast. The reality: anycast only speeds up cached content. Their dashboard was 100% dynamic, personalized JSON, every request a cache miss tunneling 11,000km to a US origin.
What we changed: we deployed edge compute to run the personalization logic in Singapore and added a read replica nearby, so the data round trip never crossed the Pacific.
Result: Singapore dashboard load dropped from 1.4s to 210ms, and Jakarta from 1.7s to 280ms.
Anycast picks a fast door to the network. It can't shorten the trip to a faraway origin.
The number that mattered: 210ms Singapore load, down from 1.4s.
