"Just back up more often" is the wrong fix, and it's making your problem worse.
People panic about data loss and crank the schedule to hourly, thinking frequency equals safety. Frequency without retention is a meat grinder. If you keep 7 nightlies and a corruption sneaks in Monday, by Sunday every backup is poisoned and Monday's last good copy is gone. The number that saves you isn't frequency, it's RETENTION DEPTH — keeping daily for a month, weekly for a quarter, monthly for a year. Frequency limits how much you lose; retention is whether you can recover at all. Optimize the wrong one and you're just churning. Change my mind.
