Purists say drop builders entirely or you'll never hit green. I've shipped Elementor and Bricks sites at 90+ mobile. The builder isn't the blocker, the defaults are.

Pros of fixing instead of fleeing:
— Keep the visual workflow your team knows
— Most penalties come from settings, not the engine

Cons / where the work is:
— You must disable unused global widgets and the default lightbox JS
— Switch to Flexbox/Grid containers, kill the legacy section wrapper
— Add a real cache + critical CSS layer, builders won't do it for you

Verdict: builders ship bad defaults, not unbeatable physics. CWV is a tuning problem.

Best for: teams willing to spend a day on container migration and asset cleanup.
