I’m checking the draft against the hard limits now: English-only wording, five blocks maximum, and 600–1000 characters excluding HTML tags.Pruning tag and category archives: keep the pages that help users, remove the rest
Tag and category archives become a problem when they create thin, overlapping URLs. Audit each one for indexed status, organic clicks, internal links, backlinks, and a distinct topic.
Keep an archive when it:
• groups several related posts
• has a clear title and useful intro
• helps visitors browse or strengthens internal linking
• earns traffic or links worth preserving
Prune archives with one or two posts, duplicate intent, auto-generated labels, or no navigation value. Remove unused tags from templates. Redirect only to a close, relevant replacement; otherwise use a proper 404 or 410 and remove internal links.
Export the URL list before editing. Record traffic, links, and indexation, then check sitemaps, navigation, and related-post modules after recrawling. Look for broken links and lost entry pages.
A smaller archive set is easier to crawl, navigate, and maintain. Keep taxonomy for users first; delete labels created only because the CMS makes them easy.
