How click IDs get lost between tracker, lander, and offer — and how to stop it
If your postback is missing conversions, the break often starts before the offer. A click ID has to survive every hop: tracker link, landing page URL, internal redirects, and the final offer click-out. One missing parameter or one rewrite is enough to kill attribution.
Use one name for the ID everywhere, and never rename it mid-flow. If your tracker sends `subid`, your landing page should read it, store it, and pass the same value onward. Avoid mixing `cid`, `clickid`, and `sub_id` unless you map them on purpose.
Checklist:
— Put the click ID in the first redirect URL
— Read it on the landing page from the query string
— Save it in a cookie or server session if the user clicks deeper
— Append it to every outgoing offer URL
— Keep URL encoding intact so symbols do not get stripped
— Test with a real click, not only a preview
The usual failure points are pretty simple: a page builder that drops query params, a redirect that rewrites the URL, a button link built manually, or a tracker macro that was copied into the wrong field. If the click ID disappears once, the postback chain is broken.
Rule: if you cannot see the same ID at every step, the network cannot either.
