The one percentage that decides everything: conversion rate
Drowning in stats? Learn one and ignore the rest at first. It is the conversion rate.
Conversion rate (often shortened to CR) is the share of clicks that turn into leads, written as a percentage.
The formula is gentle: leads divided by clicks, times 100.
Tiny example. 500 clicks gave you 10 leads.
— 10 ÷ 500 = 0.02.
— 0.02 × 100 = 2%. Your conversion rate is 2%.
Why this one number rules your results: it connects your click cost to your earnings. A higher rate means more leads from the same clicks, which means more profit from the same spend.
Watch what happens when it moves a little. Same 500 clicks, same $5 spent at $0.01 a click:
— At 2% CR: 10 leads. At $1 each, $10 earned. Profit $5.
— At 1% CR: 5 leads. $5 earned. You only broke even.
The conversion rate barely moved, but your profit halved. That is why everyone obsesses over it.
What raises it: a better matched page, a cleaner offer, traffic from the right country, a faster load. You test one of these at a time and watch the percentage.
Next step: after your next run, calculate your conversion rate with that simple sum, write it down, and treat it as the score to beat in your next test.
