How to spot a fake SMM case study before you waste your budget on a strategy
Most cases suffer from survivor bias, showing one winning creative while ignoring dozens of failed tests. A valuable study focuses on the testing process and specific triggers that led to a pivot, rather than just flashing a high ROI.
Look for consistency. Viral spikes from giveaways or seasonal trends do not prove a long-term strategy. Sustainable growth is visible through steady interaction over time. If there is no new baseline after a campaign ends, the results were likely a fluke.
Verify attribution. Claims of direct sales from organic content without UTM tags or pixel data are often inflated. Organic brand searches or retargeting campaigns might be driving the results while the social media manager takes the credit.
Treat every case study as a hypothesis to be tested. The real value lies in the methodology of scaling and the framework for decision-making, not the specific creative assets.
