Podcast ads fail when the disclosure is only in the show notes
Host-read ads need a verbal disclosure near the recommendation, not buried at the end of the episode. Say it in plain English before the pitch or in the same breath: “This segment is sponsored,” “I earn a commission if you use my code,” or “I’m an affiliate for this product.”
For affiliate codes, do not assume the code itself explains the relationship. A listener may hear a short promo once and never open the notes. If the code is tied to compensation, the spoken disclosure should cover it clearly; the notes can add detail, but they should not carry the whole load. 🎧
Show notes still matter. Use them for a fuller disclosure, the affiliate link label, and any material terms that affect the recommendation. Keep the wording easy to spot and avoid hiding it under links, episode summaries, or a wall of text.
Quick check: if someone hears only the audio, would they still know you may benefit from the mention? If not, the disclosure is too weak. Put the relationship where the listener cannot miss it, then repeat it in the notes for backup.
