Local links for contractors come from real business relationships, not random outreach
For roofers, plumbers, HVAC crews, the easiest local links usually sit in three places: sponsorships, suppliers, and trade associations. None of them should be chased as “SEO links” first. Treat them as visibility plays that can also help rankings.
Look for links that match how the business already operates:
— Sponsor a youth team, charity run, trade school event, or neighborhood festival
— Ask suppliers, manufacturers, and wholesale partners for a “Where to buy / Find a pro” mention
— Join local and state associations that publish member directories
— Get listed on chamber, licensing, and community partner pages
The value is in relevance and consistency. A sponsor page on a real local site, a supplier directory with the contractor name, and an association profile with the same NAP details build trust together. One weak link won’t move much; a clean cluster of local mentions can support both maps and organic pages.
Keep the asks simple: one URL, one preferred business name, one service area, one phone number. If a partner can add a short description, make it service-led, not keyword stuffed. Avoid anything that looks like a paid link scheme or a sitewide footer swap.
Build links where your business already has a footprint, and the SEO value usually follows the relationship.
