Two-way internal links between sibling pages waste both pages' equity. Go one direction.
When page A links B and B links A, you've created a closed loop. Equity sloshes back and forth between two pages instead of flowing down to the deep content that needs it. It feels "connected." It's actually a stagnant pond.
Structure flows: pillar links to clusters, clusters link up to the pillar and across only when genuinely relevant — not reflexively to every sibling because a plugin suggested it.
Directional linking concentrates weight where you want rankings. Mutual back-scratching dilutes it.
Who's auditing their link graph for loops? Or is your site one big tangle?
