A SaaS company ranked #2 for a high-value query yet never got cited in ChatGPT or Perplexity answers for the same question. A competitor at position #6 got quoted constantly.

The difference was rendering. The SaaS FAQ was a React accordion — answers lived in collapsed panels that only mounted into the DOM on click. Googlebot, which fully renders JS, eventually saw them. But most AI crawlers and retrieval bots fetch raw HTML and run little or no JavaScript. They saw question headers with empty bodies. No answer text to extract, nothing to cite.

The competitor's answers sat in plain server-rendered HTML, fully present on load.
