Everyone schedules backups. Almost nobody restores them. So you find out your .sql.gz is truncated, your encryption key is gone, or your dump excluded a critical table — at 3am, mid-disaster, with the client screaming. A backup you've never restored has a verified success rate of exactly zero. Schedule a quarterly fire drill: pull a random backup, rebuild on a fresh box, log the wall-clock time it takes. If you can't restore it, you don't have it. Change my mind.
