Category page text should earn clicks, not bury products or dilute intent

For ecommerce category pages, enough text usually means a short block that answers intent fast: what the category covers, key subtypes, and one reason to trust the page. Think 80–200 words, not a blog post. If the page already has strong products, filters, and internal links, the copy should support the layout, not compete with it.

Put the main block above the product grid only if the category is broad and the user needs orientation. For high-intent pages, keep the first screen clean and move the text below the grid or into a collapsed block. The goal is to avoid pushing products too far down while still giving search engines visible context.

What the text should do:
• define the category in plain language
• mention common attributes buyers look for
• add one or two natural internal links to related categories
• avoid repeating filter labels and stuffing keywords

Do not treat more text as better. Thin, generic copy is weak; long copy that reads like an SEO appendix is worse. A strong category page has a clear heading, useful products, and a compact paragraph that helps both users and crawlers understand the page fast.

Keep it short, specific, and placed where it helps the first decision, not where it slows it down.
