If a page only gets found via the sitemap, it has zero internal votes. The sitemap is a discovery hint, not an equity source. An orphan ranks on backlinks and prayer.

And here's who's orphaning pages: anyone relying purely on automated nav/category links instead of editorial body linking. Your CMS links the new pages; nobody links the old ones; they rot.

A proper internal-linking pass means old posts get updated to point at new ones. If your only linker is a template, your archive is a graveyard.
