How to spot fake numbers in affiliate case studies before you lose your budget
Most case studies are marketing tools. If you see a high ROI without any mention of testing phases, you are looking at a "survivorship bias" example. Often, these reports highlight only the single most profitable day rather than the average performance over the entire campaign.
Focus on the technical setup. A reliable case study describes the funnel: the source, the pre-lander type, and the optimization strategy. If the author uses vague terms without explaining the creative angle, the data is useless. Look for specific targeting hooks that worked.
Sustainable results require a large data sample. A case with a tiny budget is a statistical fluke. Pay attention to how the author handled creative fatigue, as these methods define the actual longevity of the strategy.
Treat public cases as inspiration, not as a manual. When a case goes public, competition spikes instantly. Use the logic of the funnel, but build your own assets to maintain a competitive edge.
