Verifying where your server actually lives
Myth: "servers in your country for speed." The flag on the homepage is a sticker, not a location.
— Get your server IP, run it through ipinfo.io and a second geo-IP source. They disagree on resellers.
— Run mtr or traceroute from your region. Count the hops and the final-mile city.
— A "US server" that routes through Frankfurt is a reseller of someone else's box.
— Check the ASN owner. If it's not the host's name, they're renting and reselling.
Follow the money: marketing picks the flag, accounting picks the cheapest rack.
Reality: your latency knows where the server is, even when the ad lies.
