Q: Incentivized or non-incentivized traffic — and how do I keep incent traffic clean?

A: Neither is fraud by itself, but they fail quality checks in completely different ways, so judging them by the same metric is the mistake.

Non-incentivized traffic (user acts because they want the offer) gives you genuine intent — better retention, lower chargebacks, conversions that actually stick. It's the gold standard for advertisers, but it's slower and pricier to scale.

Incentivized traffic (user gets a reward — points, cashback, in-app currency — for converting) scales fast and floods volume, but intent is shallow: high install counts, dismal retention, and a much higher fraud surface since users are motivated to game the reward.

Keeping incent clean if you run it:
— Judge it on downstream events, not the action itself — retention day-7, deposit, repeat purchase. Top-of-funnel numbers always look great and mean little.
— Disclose it. Many advertisers ban incent outright; running it on a non-incent offer is a contract breach, not just a quality issue.
— Watch for the tell: huge conversion volume with near-zero engagement after the reward unlocks.

Short version: non-incent for sticky, advertiser-trusted quality; incent for fast volume but judge it on downstream retention and always disclose it. Same KPI for both is the trap.
