How to Actually Read a PageSpeed Insights Report

PageSpeed Insights is Google's free speed-checker, but the report can feel like a wall of numbers. Let's read it like a map, not a maze.

Go to pagespeed.web.dev, paste your URL, and look in this order:

1. Top section: 'Discover what your real users are experiencing' — this is field data, actual visitors. Trust this most.

2. The three colored bars: LCP, INP, CLS. Green is good, orange needs work, red is urgent.

3. Scroll down to 'Diagnose performance issues' — that's lab data from one test run.

4. Open 'Opportunities' — each item shows estimated seconds you could save.

5. Ignore the single overall score for now. Fix the red Core Web Vitals first.

The colored bars are your real grade; the score is just a summary.

Try this: Run your homepage and write down which of the three bars is reddest.
