Product changes can make your best-ranking content wrong—and quietly reduce conversions
A feature rename, removed workflow, changed limit, or new onboarding path can invalidate more than a screenshot. It can break a promise, comparison, integration guide, or CTA while the URL keeps attracting qualified visitors.
Use a change-response checklist:
• Map affected URLs from release notes, support tickets, and sales objections.
• Label each page accurate, partly wrong, or obsolete.
• Replace the exact claim, step, screenshot, or comparison that failed.
• Re-test every CTA, signup path, integration instruction, and internal link.
Do not rewrite every page by default. Preserve sections that still earn clicks and update the smallest unit that became wrong. Redirect only when the replacement matches the original search intent.
Track qualified signups, activation, and support questions alongside rankings. Traffic can stay stable while conversion quality declines.
Assign an owner for each product area, record the last verification, and keep a short list of claims to check after every relevant product change.
