<b>Can you get on a trend TOO early?</b>
<i>"Is there a risk in being first instead of late?"</i>
Short answer: yes, and it's underrated.
Here's why. Very early, a sound or format hasn't been validated by the algorithm yet — there's no proven watch-time signal, so the system isn't actively pushing it. You can post a technically-perfect early entry that flops because the trend hadn't reached escape velocity. The sweet spot is the steep part of the curve: enough adoption to confirm momentum, before saturation kills differentiation.
Verdict: don't aim to be first. Aim to be in the first 48-72 hours after a sound's daily-use count starts visibly accelerating. That's the real entry point.
