LEAK: the IB-vs-affiliate distinction that's quietly tripping crypto partners

LEAK: the IB-vs-affiliate distinction that's quietly tripping crypto partners

Word from a compliance contact: some exchanges are reclassifying high-volume rev-share partners as introducing brokers rather than 'affiliates' — and IB status can carry licensing expectations in certain jurisdictions that plain content affiliates never had to think about.

The so-what:
— Rev-share on trading activity looks more like 'sharing in brokerage revenue' to a regulator than a flat content referral does. That framing matters.
— Affiliates pushing perps/derivatives traffic are reportedly the ones getting the reclassification nudge first.
— If your contract suddenly uses 'IB' language where it used to say 'affiliate,' that's not cosmetic. Get it looked at before you sign.

Not legal advice, and unconfirmed how widely this is happening. But the wording shift is showing up.

Watch this.
