Product changes can quietly turn a high-ranking page into a source of bad advice
When a feature, workflow, or plan changes, old content becomes a trust and conversion problem, not just an editing task. Make each meaningful product update a content-audit trigger.
Use this checklist:
— Map affected pages through product docs, support questions, sales objections, and search data.
— Label each claim changed, unchanged, or needing proof.
— Update steps, screenshots, comparison tables, FAQs, titles, and internal links.
— Assign an owner and a review trigger.
Prioritize pages with organic traffic, rankings, backlinks, or signup intent. Check the full path: does the search result promise still match the page, product experience, and CTA? For integration and alternatives pages, test the actual workflow instead of changing feature names.
Remove obsolete sections unless they help a current decision. Consolidate pages that no longer describe a real use case, and record the change for the next audit. A product change is complete only when the content and customer path agree.
