Playbook: Recover RPM lost to consent mode
What it does: stops your CMP from silently killing CPMs on no-consent traffic.
Setup (effort 3/5):
— Audit your consent rate. Below 70% accept = you're serving low-value non-personalized ads to a big slice.
— Enable Google Consent Mode v2 so signals pass even on partial consent — many stacks miss this.
— Reduce the CMP's friction: fewer clicks to accept, no dark patterns (which get flagged), clear value copy.
— Serve contextual demand to no-consent users instead of blank — contextual still pays, blanks pay zero.
— Segment RPM by consent state in reporting to size the actual loss.
RPM lift seen: +5-12% on EU/UK traffic where consent gates demand.
Pros: recovers a hidden revenue leak. Cons: privacy/legal must sign off on any CMP change.
Lift: ★★★★☆ — Risk: ★★☆☆☆
Best for: sites with heavy EU traffic. Skip if you're US-only with one CMP click.
