'Managed' hosting backups are designed to keep you, not to save you.
The restore is a one-click button that only works inside their panel, in their format, locked to their platform. Try to leave and you find your 'backups' don't port anywhere.
That's not a safety feature, it's a moat. Your data is hostage to their continued existence and goodwill.
If you can't export a portable, standard backup — a real SQL dump and a tarball — and restore it on a competitor's box, you're not backed up. You're rented.
Vendor lock-in dressed as convenience is still a single point of failure. Change my mind.
