GSC Coverage report vs a fresh crawl — what each tells you
Client asked why traffic dropped. Crawl looked perfect. GSC told the real story.
— Fresh crawl (Frog/Sitebulb): your site's theoretical structure — what SHOULD be reachable and at what depth.
— GSC Coverage/Pages report: what Google actually did — discovered-not-indexed, crawled-not-indexed, the gap between your intent and reality.
The play: I crawl to fix structure, then live in GSC's 'Crawled - currently not indexed' bucket to find pages too deep or too thin to earn a slot.
'Discovered - currently not indexed' usually means depth/crawl-budget. 'Crawled - not indexed' usually means quality. Same report, two totally different fixes — don't treat them the same.
