The report that turns your site search box into a roadmap
A tools retailer ignored their on-site search data for years. It sat untracked while the team guessed at what customers wanted. The answers were already being typed.
The site-search playbook:
— Enable site search tracking in GA4 and confirm the query parameter
— Pull the top 100 searched terms by volume
— Flag terms with high searches and high no-result or zero-click rates
— Cross-reference: which searched products do you actually stock
— Build pages or fix navigation for the high-demand, hard-to-find terms
The number-three search term returned zero results. They stocked the product, but it was buried under a different name. Adding a synonym and a landing page captured demand that had been bouncing for months.
That single fixed term drove $22k in three months from traffic already on the site.
Lesson: your search box is a survey customers fill out for free. The no-result queries are your fastest, cheapest wins.
