The DNS prep checklist before any host switch
Myth: "switching hosts means downtime." Only if you skip the prep your host hopes you skip.
— A week before, drop your DNS TTL to 300 seconds so the cutover is near-instant.
— Inventory every record: A, MX, TXT (SPF/DKIM), CNAME. Hosts "forget" to mention email DNS.
— Stand up the site on the new host's temp URL and test fully before flipping.
— Keep the old account paid for 7 days after, until propagation clears.
— Run dig +trace to confirm the world sees the new server.
Reality: downtime is a planning failure, not a law of physics.
