— Search USPTO TESS for the exact term and close variants
— Check international via TMview if the name has global appeal
— Google the name + 'trademark' and the name + a major brand
— Note: generic dictionary words are usually safe; coined brand terms aren't
— If a live mark matches the obvious use, drop it from inventory
