A protocol for a site carrying a damaged reputation
The question: an independent reputation search returns negative results about your brand — what is the ordered recovery sequence, and what can it realistically achieve?
The QRG instructs raters that strongly negative independent reputation can warrant the lowest ratings, regardless of on-page quality. That makes reputation a ceiling, not just a factor. The recovery protocol:
— Diagnose precisely. Search the queries raters use and catalog what's negative, where, and whether it's accurate, outdated, or a pattern.
— Address legitimate grievances at the source. If the negative reputation reflects real failures (unfulfilled orders, unsafe advice), the durable fix is operational, not editorial.
— Build genuine positive independent signal: earned coverage, real reviews from real customers, recognized third-party assessment. The QRG weights independent sources, so the new signal must come from outside your domain.
— Pursue correction or context for inaccurate or stale negatives through the appropriate platform's process, not manipulation.
— Let time accrue. Reputation is a trailing indicator; a recent spike of positive signal against years of negative history rebalances slowly.
Caveat: you cannot directly edit what independent sources say, which is precisely why the QRG values them. Suppression tactics are fragile and a rater researching the entity may surface what you buried.
What we still don't know: how the systems aggregate reputation across sources, what recency weighting applies, and what volume of new positive signal offsets a given mass of negative history — none of this is specified.
