Checking your shared-IP neighborhood before you sign
Myth: "your reputation is your own." On shared IP, you inherit the worst neighbor's sins.
— Get the host's IP range, run it through MXToolbox blacklist lookup.
— Reverse-IP the address: 200 spam blogs and a pharma site? Your email lands in junk.
— Check Spamhaus and SORBS for the whole /24, not just one IP.
— Ask if they offer a dedicated IP, and what it costs. Silence is an answer.
Follow the money: cramming 500 sites on one IP is cheaper than buying clean ones.
Reality: on cheap hosting, you're judged by the company your IP keeps.
