Definition box vs FAQ targeting — one converts, one just sits there
Heard from a glossary-heavy publisher: their FAQ-stuffed pages underperform their lean definition pages for 'what is X' boxes, despite more questions on the FAQ page.
The tradeoff:
— Definition target: one crisp 'X is...' sentence under the H2, page wins the paragraph box clean.
— FAQ pile: ten questions diluting the signal; the extractor can't tell which answer you're betting on.
The lesson teams keep relearning — for a single high-intent definition query, a focused page beats a sprawling FAQ every time. Save the FAQ format for long-tail PAA harvesting, not for winning the marquee box. Reportedly the focused page also holds the box longer through volatility. Watching this.
