Disavow vs doing nothing
The myth: every spammy backlink is a liability you must neutralize, so disavowing is always the safe move.
Reality: for the vast majority of sites, doing nothing is the correct, evidence-backed tactic. Google's systems ignore unnatural links algorithmically — Gary Illyes has said the disavow tool is needed by a tiny minority.
— Doing nothing: zero risk of disavowing a link that was actually helping you.
— Disavowing reflexively: real risk, because disavow is permanent-ish and you can't un-see which links mattered.
Actually, "do nothing" loses every comparison on a sales page and wins almost every comparison in reality.
Reality check: if you have no manual action and no clear negative-SEO attack, the better tool is the close-tab button.
