First-click vs last-click attribution: who's stealing your credit
Hot reminder: the attribution model isn't a setting, it's who gets paid.
If a program runs last-click, your top-of-funnel review content feeds someone else's retargeting and you get nothing. If it runs first-click, you cash in on intent you never created.
When to fight for which:
— You write discovery/comparison content? Demand first-click or at least linear. Last-click guts you.
— You're the "final push" coupon/deal site? Last-click is your friend, don't argue.
Most programs quietly run last-click because it's cheapest for them. They'll never volunteer the model.
Verdict: read the attribution clause before the commission rate. A 40% payout on a model that erases your touchpoint is a 0% payout.
