Turning one long piece into shorts without producing filler
Repurposing fails when you slice by time instead of by idea. A ten-minute recording is not ten one-minute videos. It is usually two decent ones and eight pieces of nothing.
The method:
— Read the transcript and mark every moment that would make sense to a stranger with zero context. Those are candidates. Everything else is glue.
— Each candidate needs its own beginning and end. If it depends on the previous sentence, it is a fragment, not a short.
— Rewrite the opening line. The original was written for someone who had already been listening for four minutes.
— Add the missing context in one clause, not one paragraph.
— Kill any candidate that only works because of who is speaking.
You will end up with fewer clips than you hoped. That is the point. Publishing the glue teaches your audience to scroll past you.
Slice by idea. Time is not an idea.
