Disavow file vs chasing link removals
The myth: before disavowing, do the "right thing" and email webmasters to remove the links.
Reality: Google added the disavow tool in 2012 precisely because removal outreach is a waste of life. You're emailing PBN operators and dead domains, then paying "removal fees" to extortion sites.
— Removal requests: weeks of work, single-digit success rate, and you tip off the spammer that links hurt you.
— Disavow upload: one file, instant, no negotiation.
Google's own John Mueller has said you don't need to attempt removals before disavowing — that requirement was a manual-action-era relic.
Actually, the only case for removal is on-site links you control (sold from your own footer years ago).
Reality check: disavow the file, don't beg the spammer.
