Your related-posts widget is a worse contextual link, every time
Unpopular opinion: an automated related-posts widget will never beat a hand-placed contextual link. The widget fires on category or embedding similarity, sits below the fold, gets templated anchors, and Google discounts boilerplate link blocks hard. A contextual link sits in-body, mid-paragraph, with an anchor you chose for the target's actual query.
Widgets are for engagement and crawl reach on thin sites. Contextual links are for rankings. Pretending they're interchangeable is how money pages stay buried under three clicks of automation.
When did you last audit whether your widget anchors even match intent?
