Reading a retention curve without lying to yourself

Reading a retention curve without lying to yourself
The graph tells you where attention broke. It will not tell you why, but the shape narrows it down fast.
What the shapes mean:
— A cliff in the opening seconds: the start did not match the promise, or the promise was not interesting. Rewrite the hook, not the video.
— A steady slide with no cliff: pacing. Nothing is wrong and nothing is compelling. Cut length, tighten the middle.
— A drop halfway: you changed subject, or you delivered the payoff early and kept talking.
— A line that holds flat and then ends: you had it. Make more like this and study what the opening did.
— A bump upward: people rewatched something. Find that moment. It is the seed of the next one.
Compare curves against your own posts, not against other people's. Different audiences, different formats, different everything.
The curve is feedback, not a verdict.
