Paragraph vs list snippet — you're often choosing the wrong battle
Spotted in the wild this morning: a query showing a paragraph box that three competing pages keep trying to win with an ordered list. Nobody's moving it.
The quiet rule we keep seeing confirmed — Google rarely flips a stable box format just because your markup begs it to. The format is tied to the query intent, not your HTML.
— 'How to' / 'steps to' → list box, structure as numbered <ol>.
— 'What is' / 'why does' → paragraph box, 40-58 words, answer in sentence one.
Tactic comparison: fighting to convert a paragraph box into a list almost never pays. Find a sibling query that's already a list box and target that instead. Watching this.
