Myth: "Cloud hosting scales automatically, so it's always the smarter pick."
"Auto-scaling cloud" is the premium buzzword reviewers love. Compare it to a boring fixed VPS honestly.
The tradeoff:
— Cloud (AWS/managed cloud): scales, yes — and your bill scales too. A traffic spike or a bot attack becomes a four-figure invoice. Variable cost is a feature AND a liability.
— Fixed VPS: hard ceiling, predictable price. It'll fall over before it bankrupts you.
For a predictable workload, paying cloud premiums for elasticity you never use is just overpaying for an option.
Auto-scaling is auto-spending until you set caps nobody mentioned.
Reality: cloud sells you elasticity — only buy it if your traffic is actually elastic, and cap the bill first.
