Short answer: usually not, and the mistake was treating reach as free.
Here's why. Edgy or controversial trends pull big numbers, but the audience they attract often doesn't match your buyers, and the off-brand association lingers in your top-posts grid where prospects judge you. The fix: filter trends through a simple test, "would I want my best client to see this pinned to my profile?" If no, the reach isn't worth the positioning cost. There are plenty of trends that are funny and on-brand. Chase those. Cheap reach that repels the right people is the most expensive kind.
