The mistake: a heavy autoplay video up top
A big background video at the top of the page looks impressive, but it can wreck both LCP and load time. The browser fights to download that heavy file early, delaying the text and images people actually came to read.
Think of it like a marching band blocking the entrance while guests wait outside to get in.
How to fix it:
— Add a lightweight poster image with poster="..." so something shows instantly.
— Set preload="none" so the video only loads when needed.
— Better still, swap an autoplay hero video for a single optimized image — far lighter, nearly the same impact.
Try this: check whether your hero is truly the reason visitors come, or just decoration. If it's decoration, a crisp image will load far faster and rank better.
