Actually, disavow effects are slow and invisible — Google has to recrawl each disavowed URL before it applies, which can take weeks to months. If you don't track, you'll never know whether it helped, hurt, or did nothing.
Reality: without a before/after baseline, you can't distinguish disavow impact from a concurrent core update or your own content changes. You're flying blind and calling it strategy.
The failure mode is fire-and-forget — no annotation, no baseline rankings, no plan to reverse if things worsen.
The fix: log the upload date as an annotation, snapshot rankings and key landing pages, and review at 4 and 8 weeks. If it correlates with a drop, re-evaluate.
Reality check: an unmeasured disavow is a superstition.
